A feature in Parade magazine in many Sunday papers is a question and answer column by a woman named Marilyn Vos Savant: Ask Marilyn

A question and response is quoted from that column:

QUESTION:       "Why do you doubt the idea that certain people are genetically prone to alcoholism?"

ANSWER:      "One reason is that alcohol doesn’t exist in nature. Instead, alcohol is a creation of mankind: Our genes don’t know about it.

Another reason is that about 80% of alcoholics are male.

Yet no one suggests that problem genes are sex-linked, such as male- pattern baldness.

So I am concerned that, in an effort to remove the stigma of alcoholism from individuals and to blame their genes instead, we are stigmatizing whole families and ethnic groups. In my opinion, that’s far worse."

One of my favorite actors is Robert Downey Jr. I have followed his ups and downs thru the media with much interest.

I always am curious how those individuals who seemingly are on top of the world fall so hard into self destructive behavior.

Perhaps because I seem to be that way myself. My cousin used to tell me I wouldn’t be happy if I wasn’t always trying to get out of a hole and if life didn’t provide one I would make one in order to be happy.

A quote by Robert Downey Jr. from a newspaper article interview in which he said;

“I know there’s all the stuff about it’s a disease, it’s a moral dilemma — but I think at the end of the day, it’s the lack of making a solid personal decision.”

Actor Robert Downey Jr saying his life no longer is an everyday struggle because he finally made a decision to get off drugs for good.

The Bible, Gods Word to us, says in Isaiah 53:6---All we, like sheep, have gone astray. We have turned, everyone, to his on way, and the Lord hath laid on Him (Himself) the iniquity of us all.
