FAITH AND SIN
Whatsoever is not of faith is sin........quote from the New Testament...... Any conscious thought
acknowledging something as truth and committing to it would be
called "exercising faith" To put in into verb form, faithing. All faithing has an action of some kind that follows ,an act
of faith, a behavior based on the faithing. Therefore any action that is not based on faith in what God has said is sin....Hamartia in the Greek, "to miss the mark" The mark being that we are created in His image , therefore anything less than His perfection is sin...( That's why grace and the cross etc. another subject) To pursue this then, ( I'm pursuing sin), sin is to doubt Gods word, to doubt what he said or is saying.
Here is where Paul’s advice to Timothy comes to play, "study to show thyself approved, a workman RIGHTLY dividing the Word" When I say "God's Word" I'm saying "what God said and is saying" Interpretations must not be about "my feeling about this is, or I think that..." To honestly search and research for the truth no matter where it takes one and to be willing to throw off pre- conceivement and let the truth reset ourselves, is the search for truth. Therefore, doubting what God has said, not trusting what God has said, wondering if we can "skate " a little while before we trust, etc......... is sin. It is a mental attitude and we cry with the sinner in the New Testament, "Lord, help thou my unbelief!" The sum total of sin is "not faithing". However all faithlessness has it actions that follow also and they are the outward evidence of unbelief. Some sin stays inside and
no one knows but me and God, but Gods laws bring the penalties. Some sin comes out, stealing etc. and society brings the penalty but the sin is unbelief, not the stealing. Anything that comes from anywhere other than faithing , trusting God is missing the mark, hamartia, sin. " Whatsoever is not of faith is sin"
Behavior coming from faithing Gods promises is a "sweet smelling" savor to God. No matter how stumbling and poorly carried out, the acknowledgment is there, and the weakest effort is in the right direction.
Faith always brings
some kind of action, either mental or physical or both,
Lack of it always does too. THANK GOD FOR GRACE WHILE I AM STUPIDLY STUMBLING AROUND!.................
