POLITICLY CORRECT
The late Molly Ivins said of her liberal leaning, “You got to dance with them that brung you”. She was indicating that its a “born” thing. That some how we as individuals are born “political conservatives or Liberals” I have heard this before from different circles of friends and acquaintances. It seems to me that the radical conservatives and the radical liberals are opposite sides of the same coin. They both believe in socialism, social control. Their disagreement is over who should be in control of the social programs. Who should control the politics. Who can “best think for the masses” I grew up under the influence of thinking that if you weren’t a Republican you weren’t a Christian. I intuitively knew that was wrong because I was also taught that God loved everyone. The two thoughts were opposed. Politics are ugly, in any form of use. In government, church life, corporation life, you name it, politics are ugly. Evil. And politics will always be with us. Our government in the USA is a government- OF THE PEOPLE-BY THE PEOPLE –FOR THE PEOPLE. It is not supposed to be, Of the liberals- By the conservatives-For the ones who have the most money. Supposedly we are a nation who is made up of people with freewill and the individual sense to exercise that freewill to our benefit without hurting our fellow man. “Politics” does not have freewill nor any sense at all. Politics is made up of people. We vote for, people who we think are lying the least and when they get into power they lie the most because a lie is a lie. We vote them out unless their lies and conniving benefit us and then we call it good or bad conservatism or liberalism according to which “side” we are on. We are not born anything other than individuals. As we grow up we are influenced by those around us and we develop opinions and we then learn where, when and how to express those opinions. According to our size, looks(good or bad depending on peer observance), whether we were born into money or our dad was the town drunk or the town preacher and on and on, we learned to exercise those gifts so readily known as “politics” We learned where to fit. We learned what to believe. We began to loose our individuality and become part of a “group” Some became the “power” of the groups and some became the “loyal members” of the groups. THE PLAYGROUNDS HAD BECOME THE POLITICAL ARENA! The tendency to not think as an individual but to follow the strong, or the pretty, etc. became the normal way and we moved on into adulthood. According to the “plight” in which we found ourselves, we started on a new learning course. Words like “liberal” “conservative” and the like, began to drift into our thinking. At that point we tend to drift toward those who think like us and away from those who don’t and call it some acceptable name. Christians do it by choosing Denominations. Green party, Libertarians, Republicans, Democrats, Socialist, you name it somebody will join it. The problem is that even the ones in each group disagree on what they stand for and thereby break down the groups.
How bout this idea; Each person take the responsibility for themselves. Think about what you believe about everything. Make your own choices based on your beliefs. Join hands with your fellow human being when possible and when necessary. Stand alone when necessary and don’t hate the other guy for doing that very same thing even thought he or she doesn’t agree with you on the issue……….but then again, that wouldn’t be “politically correct.”
P.S. I always liked reading what Molly Ivins wrote, about half the time I agreed with her.
